Carey Kimama Road near Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Idaho. April 22, 2016.
Photo of the Day by A. F. Litt: September 12, 2016
I did not get to spend enough time at this monument and I did not get any real trail time in at all. The day I was planning on hitting the trails started off very wet, so I headed south down to Utah, instead. I hope to spend more time exploring here later this fall or next year.
Reviewing maps today, it actually appears that this was not taken within the Monument and Preserve itself, but a little to the south on BLM land. Apparently, the boundaries of the park are marked by the lava flows themselves, so if you're not on a flow, you're not in the park proper.
I am not sure which butte that is on the horizon, Broken Top Buttes, probably, or Sand, maybe...
This will be a multiple photo day, I think. I should be editing video, but I'd like to get some stills out after this unexpected break over the last few weeks.
